It’s only a matter of time before Novara’s relegation from Serie A is confirmed and Lazio can move them ever closer to the trapdoor.

Although it would need Novara to lose this game and Genoa to pull off an unlikely victory away to AC Milan later on Wednesday for it to be officially done and dusted, there is surely no way back now for the Biancoazzurri.

Novara have simply drawn too many games at home this season to have given themselves a chance of avoiding the drop and are averaging less than one goal a game on their own pitch.

Bet365 make Lazio 4/5 favourites to win this game, with Novara at 15/4 and the draw a 12/5 chance.

It is difficult to know what to make of Lazio though, for they have been remarkably inconsistent recently and it was no surprise when they were held at home by improving Lecce at the weekend despite the big gap between the sides in the table.

But for all their unpredictability at present, Eddy Reja’s side still have one foot in a Champions League position and will surely not want to squander the opportunity to cement third place against their struggling opponents.
