Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is under pressure after a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool left the Blues 12 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Andre Villas-Boas is not used to having his methods questioned, nor is the 34-year-old used to fielding questions about whether or not he will be sacked. However, after Chelsea's latest disappointment, a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, the Portuguese was forced to defend his position as manager of the Blues.

"Our commitment is to the club and to what we are doing in the future and we have enough talent to compete in all competitions. This our perspective at the moment," said Villas-Boas.

He then went on to claim that Roman Abramovich was not intending to relieve him of his position as manager.

"He [Abramovich] didn't pay 15m euros (£13.2m) to get me out of Porto and another fortune to get me out of Chelsea," he said.

"It is not a question of the owner having patience. I have said we have set out to build something new at this club and the club is committed to what we are building for the future."

However, there have been strong rumours linking Guus Hiddink, who led the club to the semi finals of the Champions League, third place in the Premier League and won the FA Cup when appointed as a replacement to Luiz Felipe Scolari, after the Brazilian made a poor start to his reign at Stamford Bridge.

William Hill are offering odds of just 5/4 that Hiddink is appointed the next Chelsea manager and it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Abramovich will turn to the Dutchman, should the Blues fail to beat Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday evening. A loss of €15 million (plus compensation) is small change to a man who spent €100 million on new players in the January transfer window.
