Newcastle United eyeing Carroll, Anita and Debuchy signings

Alan Pardew wants to make three more signings for Newcastle United this summer (credit: Getty Images)
Alan Pardew believes his Newcastle United squad can challenge for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season without many more additions.

The manager has been boosted by news that Demba Ba is now unlikely to leave the club after a £7million buy-out clause in the Senegal striker's contract passed on July 31 without any transfer being finalised.

Pardew still hopes to add Andy Carroll, Vurnon Anita and Mathieu Debuchy before the end of this month but is perfectly happy with the balance of a squad that is 12/1 with Bet365 to finish in the Premier League's top four in the 2012-13 campaign.

Everton are 20/1 to finish in the top four, Tottenham 7/4 and Aston Villa 80/1.

“We've got the product now - it's not like we need to make ground-breaking changes like we did last year,” said Pardew.

“In my view, we needed to make those changes last year. We've done them, we've done the major surgery we needed to do and now the priority is something different. It's about bringing in a little bit of quality to improve the squad.”

Midfielder Yohan Cabaye is hoping the Magpies can capture his France team-mate Debuchy after revealing the defender is desperate to follow him to Tyneside.

Newcastle have been trailing the 27-year-old Lille right-back for some time but have yet to tempt the French club with an offer that comes anywhere near their valuation of him.

However, Cabaye, who made the same journey last summer in a £4.8million switch that proved one of the bargains of the transfer window, is confident Debuchy wants to come.

He said: “Mathieu has made a very difficult to decision to leave Lille but he has made the decision. Now I hope Newcastle push for Mathieu and I want them to do the deal.

“I spoke with him two days ago and he told me he wants to come. I hope Derek (Llambias) and (owner) Mike Ashley will do the business now.

“He wants to play for Newcastle and I hope he comes here because of course he is my friend, but also would be a very good player for Newcastle.”
