Napoli v Chelsea betting tips - Azzurri can beat Blues in San Paolo

Napoli look like a fantastic bet to beat a struggling Chelsea side in the Stadio San Paolo on Tuesday evening.

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has come under pressure once again this week after his side were beaten by Everton then could only draw at home to Championship side Birmingham City in the FA Cup. The Portuguese is odds-on to be the next Premier League manager to be fired and there are few people that expect Villas-Boas to remain at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season.

The man himself was, however, in defiant mood after the defeat and when quizzed by an Italian journalist about how he expects Chelsea to beat Napoli on Tuesday if they can't beat a lower league English side at home.

"Because it's football and it happens just like that when you least expect it," was Villas-Boas' reply.

"Napoli is a strong team but we are a strong team - we still believe."

However, the journalist is right, Chelsea cannot be considered favourites to win in the Stadio Can Paolo on Tuesday night and even odds of 9/4 at bet365 aren't representative of their chances of beating Napoli. The Blues have won just once in 10 trips to Italy and it is difficult to make a case for them in Naples.

The home side have never lost at home to English opposition and were comfortable when beating Premier League leaders Manchester City 3-1 earlier this season. The Azzurri were also impressive against the Citizens in the Etihad Stadium when drawing 1-1 and there are few people who would argue that Chelsea are a better side than Manchester City.

The Blues defence has been atrocious this season and they have now conceded 31 goals in just 25 Premier League matches. They leaked five against Arsenal earlier in the season and somehow conspired to draw 3-3 with Manchester United a fortnight ago, despite being 3-0 ahead after an hour. David Luiz is the obvious scapegoat but the Brazilian is not the only culprit. John Terry was never the fastest player in the world but he now looks slow and is vulnerable to any attackers with pace.

Napoli are a team that like to play on the counter attack but when they do go forward they do so with pace and precision. Edinson Cavani, who is 6/1 at William Hill to open the scoring, has netted 15 goals in Serie A this season and has now netted eight times in his last nine matches. He scored four goals in the group stage of the Champions League and it is surprising to see him as big as 21/10 with SportingBet to find the net at any time on Tuesday.

That price, along with the 7/5 at Bet Victor on a Napoli win in the San Paolo, is simply too big and our recommendation is to back both and hope that the Uruguayan helps the Azzurri to beat the Blues this week.

Recommendation

Win Market - Napoli (7/5, Bet Victor)
Anytime Goalscorer - Edinson Cavani (21/10, Sporting Bet)
