Martin O’Neill new Sunderland manager – report

Martin O’Neill has agreed to become the new Sunderland manager, according to BBC Sport.

Former Celtic and Aston Villa boss O’Neill was quickly made the bookmaker’s favourite to take charge at the Stadium of Light after Steve Bruce was sacked earlier this week.

The Black Cats are just two points above the relegation zone following a dismal run of two wins from 13 league games, but that has apparently not turned off 59-year-old O’Neill.

The Northern Irishman, who enjoyed successful spells at Leicester City and Celtic, has been out of work since quitting Aston Villa on the eve of the 2010/11 Premier League campaign.

Reports suggest he will not take charge of this weekend’s game against Wolves, but will take hold of the reins for the game against fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers on December 11.
