Manchester City v Southampton confirmed starting teams

Hart missed England’s friendly international win over Italy in midweek with a back problem, but returns to the City side at the expense of Romanian understudy Costel Pantilimon, who deputised in the FA Community Shield victory against Chelsea.

Jack Rodwell makes his debut in centre midfield just a week after completing his £12million move from Everton and will play alongside Yaya Toure, with David Silva and Samir Nasri the wide men.

Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez are the front men with Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli, who has been suffering from conjunctivitis, on the bench.

James Milner and Nigel De Jong are the midfield reinforcements, joined as substitutes by Alexander Kolarov, Stefan Savic and Pantilimon.

For newly-promoted Southampton, youngster James Ward-Prowse starts in midfield with Morgan Schneiderlin, Adam Lallana and surprise choice Jason Puncheon.

Nathaniel Clyne makes his debut at right-back after joining from Crystal Palace during the close season.

Guly Do Prado will support Jay Rodriguez up front with Rickie Lambert on the bench along with Steven Davis, the summer signing from Rangers.
