Manchester City v Everton tips - City will keep it tight against Toffees

Edin Dzeko is 9/2 to open the scoring on Saturday
Manchester City will look to bounce back from a disappointing draw with Fulham when they host Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Manchester City's 100% record in the Premier League came to a disappointing end on Sunday afternoon at Craven Cottage when the Citizens allowed Fulham to come back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 and manager Roberto Mancini was understandably unhappy after the match. The Italian did, however, make the rather perplexing claim that City "need midifielders", this despite the fact that he has spent over £100 million on assembling the current crop that play in the centre of the park and that both Vladimir Weiss and Michael Johnson were allowed to leave on loan this summer.

Mancini was quite clearly trying to deflect attention from his team's defensive failings as he also criticised the forwards, adding:

"It's incredible, we lost two points after we scored two goals and dominated the game.

"But I think this can be a lesson for us. When we have the chances we should score."

This was despite Argentine Sergio Aguero netting a double to bring his tally for the season to an incredible eight in five matches, two ahead of strike partner Edin Dzeko. Only Wayne Rooney has outscored either player this season.

Either way, it is clear that Mancini was unhappy with the performance against Fulham and it seems certain that he will demand a massive improvement when his side host Everton on Saturday. It is 4/9, at Ladbrokes, that they bounce back with a win and that price is unlikely to last until kick off.

The aforementioned Aguero-Dzeko partnership is, without doubt, the best in the Premier League and while the former, who is 7/2 at bet365 to open the scoring on Saturday, it is perhaps the latter who has impressed the most. The Bosnian, who is 9/2 at Coral to score first against Everton, has really taken to his role as the focal point of the City attack and he is thriving on the service provided by Samir Nasri (8/1, Paddy Power) and David Silva (8/1, totesport) from the flanks.

That quartet should prove too much for the Everton defence on Saturday and the worry for the Toffees is that Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines have to spent most of the match on the back foot, which will take away much of the visitors' attacking threat. Tim Cahill (13/1, Unibet) can do nothing without the ball in the box and former Manchester United striker Louis Saha (13/1, Unibet) is no longer much of a threat. This means that City's defence are unlikely to be unduly worried at the Etihad Stadium and odds of 8/1 (Bwin) on an Everton win look justified.

It is 6/4, at Paddy Power, that Manchester City win without conceding a goal on Saturday and that looks a fair good bet. The fall-out from Craven Cottage will be that Mancini is more cautious with his tactics and, rather than look for more goals when they go two up, City will be operating a 'safety first' mantra, which should see Joe Hart keep a third clean sheet in three Premier League matches at the Etihad Stadium.

Recommendation

Win to Nil - Manchester City (6/4, Paddy Power)
