Liverpool FC want £23million + Adam Johnson on loan for Daniel Agger

Liverpool FC are demanding either a straight fee of £27million or £23million plus Adam Johnson on a season’s loan from Manchester City if they are to sell Daniel Agger to the Premier League champions.

City manager Roberto Mancini has made the Denmark international centre-half his No 1 transfer target this month now that his bid for Robin van Persie looks dead.

But Agger is regarded as a prize asset at Anfield and the Reds are refusing to let him go easily.

Mancini was given some encouragement by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers saying the Dane would be allowed to go for the right price, but it remains to be seen whether that price is too high for the City board who have had two offers rejected.

Since being bought by Sheikh Mansour, City, who have yet to make a signing this summer, have had to get used to paying a premium for players they want and it is no different with Agger.

When questioned on the possibility of a move, Rodgers said: “There has been contact from City but nowhere near the valuation of what the player is worth.

“You can only consider something like that if it will benefit you. Of course you might lose a top player but if it benefits you going forward and you can make two or three steps because of it, you may have to consider it.”

Agger is 4/7 at Sky Bet and 3/5 with BetVictor to join City by the August 31 transfer deadline, while Johnson is Evens at BetVictor to move in the opposite direction.

There is also interest from punters in Johnson joining Tottenham and his odds for that move have been cut by both firms, with SkyBet going 8/1 and BetVictor just 6/1.
