Kenny Huang’s investment fund has raised exact amount of cash to buy club

Some interesting developments on the Liverpool FC takeover bid this morning, with The Guardian revealing that Kenny Huang is representing a Chinese government fund that has spent the last two weeks raising a very specific amount of money.

However, it appears that the Chinese government are just one of three rival bidders for the Merseyside club and that they might not even be the front runner, with Rhone Capital and an American private equity firm also thought to be interested.

The China Investment Corporation has sold $558m in shares since July, a sum that’s roughly equivalent to the £351.4m of debt that Liverpool FC currently have.

While Huang confirmed yesterday that no formal bid has been lodged for the club, this will be encouraging news for supporters who simply want to see the club placed on a more secure financial footing as quickly as possible, so that new players can be brought in ahead of the new season.

It also appears that Syrian businessman Yahya Kirdi is further away from a deal to buy Liverpool FC than he has claimed this week. It appears that the Kenny Huang-led consortium could be the ones to take the club away from the hands of George Gillett and Tom Hicks.
