While chairman Martin Broughton keeps looking for a new owner of Liverpool FC, it appears that there’s a definite possibility of the club being owned by the taxpayer come the end of 2010.

Kenny Huang and Yahya Kirdi have been in the news in the past week, with both businessmen fronting rival consortium bids to try and wrest ownership of George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

However, The Guardian have revealed that Liverpool are just two months away from being majority-owned by the taxpayer, something which would become likely if no sale of the club is agreed.

As it stands, Liverpool FC are in debt with the Royal Bank of Scotland to the tune of £237m and this loan expires on 6th October. Therefore, if no formal offer materialises before that date, it’s possible that RBS’s corporate-restructuring team would take control of the club.

Liverpool supporters will be crossing their fingers that this scenario doesn’t occur, although there’s no deal on the table right now.
