It is hard to look past Paris Saint Germain as this season’s Ligue 1 title winners, after a huge investment in the playing and coaching staff at the Parc des Princes.

The side from the French capital were bought by the Qatar Investment Group and that means that manager Carlo Ancelloti, and new director of football Leonardo, have an almost bottomless transfer budget. Leonardo and former boss Antoine Koumbouare did spend wisely prior to the season starting, bringing in Lorient's Kevin Gameiro plus exciting France international Jeremy Menez to bolster their attacking options. And the arrival of Javier Pastore to the Parce des Princes has given them the strongest squad in Ligue 1 by some way. Les Parisiens are currently the 1/6 favourites, at bet365, to win Ligue 1 and they have to be our tip to do so. 

Surprisingly, Montpellier are sitting second in the standings and continue to defy their doubters, who claimed they could not keep up their impressive pace. They have sat at the summit of French football on a number of occasions this season and are 7/2 to upset their big-spending title rivals, but it would take a considerable effort for them to get the better of big-spending PSG.

Third-placed Lille are seven points behind Montpellier, with Toulouse three points further back. And with Lyon and St Etienne a point behind those two clubs, it appears as though this season's race for the title will be contested by Paris St Germain and Montpellier.
