Liam Watson plots for next season

Southport manager Liam Watson is confident he can enlist some quality players for next season.

The Sandgrounders impressed with a seventh-placed finish in the recently concluded Blue Square Bet Premier campaign, and Watson is hoping he can take the side even further next term.

"I have learned a great deal this season, especially in the final run in and will take that on board for next season. We have a real solid nucleus to build on and I will now be looking to bring in the players I have targeted," Watson told his club's official website.

"People talk about strengthening last January. Quite simply the backing to bring players in was there, make no mistake about that, but the quality I needed just was not available and that is the trend during the January window from my experience.

"I am looking forward to pre-season, developing the squad and feel we can all look ahead with confidence after this season's achievements. It is quality this summer I can focus on and I feel confident we will attract the players I feel will take us even further forward. Plus we will have Aaron Turner back in pre-season after missing the whole of this season. Aaron is ready now after tremendous rehab work with Chris (physio Roberts).

"This is exciting times for everyone connected with the club, the support has been excellent home and away. Our away form has been unbelievable and yes we will all be looking to take our home form up a couple of notches."

Players Tony McMillan, Jay Smith, Chris Lever, Steve Akrigg, Simon Grand, Andy Owens, Earl Davis, Alan Moogan, Andy Parry, Karl Ledsham, Russell Benjamin, Tony Gray and Shaun Whalley have all committed themselves to Haig Avenue for the 2012/13 campaign.
