Arsenal have been linked with January moves for Hugo Rodallega and Kaka, but just how active will manager Arsene Wenger be when the transfer window opens.
This writer's instinct is that, after seeing his reassembled squad start to sparkle in recent months with eight wins and a draw in 10 Premier League matches, Wenger will be reluctant to get too involved in the January transfer window.
The newspapers appear to disagree though, expecting several moves to be made to ensure that the club's perfect run of top-four finishes under the Frenchman continues, something that is judged far from certain at present at 2.12 on
Betfair.
The most intriguing name mentioned on Friday is that of Hugo Rodallega, with the Metro reporting that an attempt to sign the Colombian will be made next month.
It is widely believed that Marouane Chamakh's days at the Emirates are numbered and with Park Chu-Young yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Gunners, another understudy for Robin van Persie, the 2.76 favourite to be the division's top scorer, could be required.
Having spent three years at Wigan, Rodallega should not take as long to settle, but it is alarming that he has been warming the bench lately for a side struggling in the bottom three, and hasn't netted this season. Valued at around £5m however, Wenger may feel that he is worth the risk.
Another rumour doing the rounds, not for the first time, is that Kaka is looking to get out of Real Madrid and has attracted the interest of Arsenal and Chelsea.
It is claimed that Kaka is disappointed that, having moved to the Bernabeu for around £56m two-and-a-half years ago, he has never truly established himself as a key figure for the Spanish capital club, where he plays second fiddle to Mesut Ozil is his favoured playmaking position.
But there have been numerous occasions in the past when the Brazilian star has been linked with a transfer to England that hasn't materialised, most notably when he "bottled" the chance to join Manchester City in the winter of 2009.
This could be another, as there is speculation that compatriot and former AC Milan colleague Leonardo has plans to bring him to 1.6 Ligue 1 favourites Paris St-Germain.
