Hearts v Liverpool FC betting tips - Reds can regain some pride at Tynecastle

Liverpool suffered a humiliating defeat to West Brom on the opening day of the season but they should be more than capable of a morale boosting victory over Hearts at Tynecastle on Thursday evening.

Watch and bet on Hearts v Liverpool live at bet365>livestreaming>football from 19:45 BST on Thursday.

So, the Rodgers revolution hasn't started according to plan. Instead of a glorious new dawn Liverpool fans were waking up to a hangover on Saturday after drowning their sorrows to try and forget the embarrassment of a 3-0 defeat to West Brom.

One saving grace is that Roy Hodgson is no longer the manager of the Baggies but the irony of former Reds boss Steve Clarke tactically out-thinking Brendan Rodgers can't have been lost on the traveling supporters and it may take the side some time to get over the thumping.

Thankfully, there is an opportunity to put some things right on Thursday with a Europa League qualifier against Hearts that should really be little more than a penalty kick for the Premier League 'giants'. The SPL side may be at home and the papers will talk about Tynecastle being a tough place to visit but there is a huge gulf in quality between football north and south of the border and Liverpool, like Spurs last year, should be able to make it pay.

It is 4/7 at Stan James that the Reds beat their Scottish hosts on Thursday and usually anyone taking that price would want their head examined but on this occasion it seems fair enough. Hearts have once again sold off their prized assets during a transfer window with Ian Black, Craig Beattie and Rudi Skacel all leaving Gorgie and the players that have replaced them are hardly world beaters.

Not one of the current squad have made an appearance for the Scotland national team in the past 12 months and recent draws with Hibs and Inverness showed the level of ability of John McGlynn's men. How they expect to cope with Andy Carroll, Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez when they can't deal with Connor Shinnie and Andrew Pepper is a question that simply can't be answered.

Obviously Liverpool are a work in progress so there will be some chinks in their armour at the moment but the passing ability of Joe Allen, Jordan Henderson and Lucas is not in doubt and they will be confident of dictating possession at Tynecastle. Suarez missed a whole host of chances against West Brom on Saturday but the feeling is that if the Uruguayan scores once then he will get many more and this could be the perfect opportunity for him to break his duck for the season. It is 4/1 at Sky Bet that he opens the scoring and that price could be worth taking.

Fabio Borini has already opened his Liverpool account with the first of the game against Gomel and the Italy international will be looking for another Europa League goal on Thursday. He is 5/1 at Bet Victor to score first.

The Reds beat the Belarusians 4-0 on aggregate and it is debatable whether Hearts are a better side than Gomel. They will fight and harass their more illustrious opponents but there's likely to be no returns for those who choose to back a home win (13/2, Bet Victor) or a draw (11/4, bet365) in Edinburgh.

Instead, look for Liverpool to come out with a point to prove and an early away goal could well be on the cards. It is 11/8 at Stan James that the visitors lead at half-time and the final whistle on Thursday and that looks like the best bet on the game.

Recommendation

HT/FT - Liverpool/Liverpool (11/8, Stan James)
