Spurs boss backs striker to make impact in South Africa

Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has claimed that, despite the fact he has lost his place in the Spurs side to Roman Pavlyuchenko, Peter Crouch “has to go to the World Cup” with England.

Crouch has a far better record for his country than at any of his previous club sides, having scored 20 goals in 37 international appearances, many of which have been from the substitutes bench, and Redknapp who has worked with the 6ft 7in striker at Southampton, Portsmouth and now Spurs, said:

"Crouch has to go to the World Cup,

"He seems to score every time he plays for England, he leads the line well, holds the ball up and wins every header.

"He gives you something completely different when games are tight.

"You can play long balls to him, he will win headers and (help) other players to get around the second ball and open packed defences.

"I think both he and Jermain Defoe will go to the World Cup."
