The former Portsmouth right-back moves to Liverpool as manager Benitez improves his squad for an assault on the Premier League title. Johnson was a target of Chelsea and Manchester City but has chosen to move to Liverpool where he is expected to be a first-choice selection in the Liverpool defence. The transfer fee for Johnson is believed to be £18 million, but there is some uncertainty regarding expenses still owed to Liverpool from Portsomuth following Peter Crouch's transfer to Portsmouth.
