After a good start to the season, Fiorentina had a very poor October, in which they only managed two points from four matches. They have, however, regained their form, and are 8/11 (StanJames) to record a third successive against Parma on Saturday.
Parma sit just one point behind their opponents, but they are a very different side at home than they are away. Five of their six league wins have occurred in-front of their own fans, and Francesco Guidolin’s side, who are 19/4 (Expekt) to beat Fiorentina, would probably settle for a point (5/2, Boylesport) on Saturday, in what will be a difficult game for the Criociati.
Fiorentina possess one of the most fearsome strike-forces in Serie A, with manager Cesare Pradelli able to call on Alberto Gilardino (5/1, Coral) and exciting youngster Stefan Jovetic (6/1, Coral) in the absence of Adrian Mutu. Either of those players are capable of scoring a goal out of nothing, and it is rare for Fiorentina to win without one of their front two getting on the scoresheet.
The Viola have an impressive defensive record, and have only conceded two goals in six home matches this season. Left-back Juan Vargas (7/1, Bluesq) has been one of the outstanding performers in the league this season, and rumours persist linking the Peruvian, who can also offer a goal threat, with a transfer to Real Madrid.
A fifth home clean sheet of the season is an 11/10 (SkyBet) shot, and correct score punters will like the look of the 11/2 (VictorChandler) on offer for yet another one-nil victory for the home side.
Parma are, however, capable of scoring goals, even on their travels. On-loan striker Valeri Bojinov (8/1, Totesport) is building up a good understanding with Alberto Paloschi (9/1, SkyBet), and between them they account for over half of Parma’s goals this season.
Unfortunately, the Parma defence proves to be very porous when not playing at Stadio Ennio Tardini, and concedes an average of almost two goals per game. It, therefore, seems likely that even if Parma do manage a goal, that Fiorentina will be capable of scoring more than once. A two-one win for the home side is a 9/1 (SkyBet) shot, and offers insurance for anyone gambling on the Fiorentina win to nil (13/8, SkyBet).
