Fernando Torres Wants Liverpool to Strengthen With Signings

Striker says he will consider his future if additions aren’t made

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has claimed that unless the club strengthen the squad over the summer, he will be forced to consider his future at Anfield.

The Reds have struggled all season, and have been knocked out of the Champions League, Carling Cup and FA Cup already, and a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Lille on Thursday has left the club struggling to qualify for the Europa League quarter-finals.

With competition heating up for fourth place in the Premier League, it is also looking increasingly likely that Liverpool could miss out on next season’s Champions League, which could see an Anfield exodus, led by Torres, although the Spaniard has said that the deal-breaker for him will be the club’s ambition in this summer’s transfer window:

"It's too soon to talk, I honestly think that we're going to be fourth, but for me Champions League qualification isn't so important.

"The really important thing is that the club makes a big effort and brings in important players, who will improve the quality of the squad.

"We need four or five top-class players to compete, better than we have here, who will make us grit our teeth and do everything we can to try and keep our places.

"Without reinforcements next year we will once again be fighting to be fourth.

"I want to fight next year to win the Premier League, to win the Champions League or the Europa League, but for this there have to be signings."

Liverpool are now 11/4 (Coral) to finish in the Premier League’s top four this season
