Everton FC have agreed a fee to re-sign Steven Pienaar on a permanent deal from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Toffees have been keen to take the South Africa midfielder back to Goodison Park having sold him to Spurs for £3million in January 2011.

Pienaar returned to Everton on loan in January 2012 after struggling to make an impact at White Hart Lane in his 12 months in London.

He played a key part in Everton’s fine end to the season, linking up well with Marouane Fellaini and Nikica Jelavic.

Manager David Moyes needed to strengthen his midfield options having seen Tim Cahill leave for the MLS.

Pienaar made only five Premier League starts for Tottenham and now it appears manager Andre Villas-Boas is happy to allow the 30-year-old to complete his move back to Merseyside.

In his first and second stints with Everton, Pienaar notched up 156 appearances and scored 16 goals.

Moyes had earlier this summer expressed his desire to re-sign Pienaar, revealing: “I don't like to talk about players at other clubs but I think the fact of the matter is that Steven has made it really clear he wants to come back to Everton.

“My understanding is that hasn't changed. My next job, hopefully, in the coming weeks is to get Steven Pienaar here.”

Everton have made a habit of finishing seventh in the Premier League in recent seasons and are 5/1 with Blue Square to have broken into the top six at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.
