Georginio Wijnaldum looking to help PSV do well
In-form Ajax are the new favourites to win the 2011/12 Dutch Eredivisie title.

Ajax won their first Eredivisie title in seven years last season, but the most famous Dutch football team looked set to surrender that crown when they embarked on a miserable run of form that saw them take just one point from three games following the winter break. However, a mid-February win over NAC Breda kick-started their campaign, sparking a six-game winning run that has left them a point behind leaders AZ Alkmaar. The Amsterdam giants are now 2/1 to retain their crown.

AZ Alkmaar are back on top after winning their recent battle for top spot with PSV Eindhoven. A poor run of results midway through the season threatened to derail their title challenge but, like Ajax, they too have hit a hot streak at the right time and have now gone a point clear at the summit, with the bookmakers making them 5/2 to rule Dutch football.

Third-placed PSV Eindhoven are an attacking team and were by far the most exciting to watch last year, with the 10-0 victory over Feyenoord a particular highlight. Marcus Berg and Balazs Dzsudzsak may have left but they have been well replaced, with FC Utrecht duo Dries Mertens and Kevin Strootman joining the club. The signing of 20-year-old Georginio Wijnaldum from Feyenoord was also a major coup as PSV look to end a sequence of near-misses when it comes to winning the Dutch crown. They are two points off the summit and are 3/1 to finish the season on top.

FC Twente (5/1) made a blistering start but failed to keep that going. However, they are fourth in the standings and remain firmly in contention, as are Feyenoord and Heerenveen. With just five points separating the top six, the race for the championship looks set to be a thrilling one.
