England v Belgium betting tips - Don't expect fireworks at Wembley

England will have a full strength side available for Saturday's friendly with Belgium at Wembley but it is unlikely to result in a dramatically improved performance from Roy Hodgson's side.

So, Roy Hodgson's England are very much like Fabio Capello's England. Is anyone surprised? The Three Lions were comfortable but unspectacular in the new manager's first match in charge, a 1-0 win over Norway, that told no-one anything that they didn't already know.

The defence is solid and it will become even more so when John Terry, Ashley Cole and Gary Cahill return on Saturday for the match against Belgium at Wembley. The midfield is solid and an injury to Gareth Barry isn't going to make a dramatic difference, with his Manchester City team mate James Milner an able deputy, but the attack is pretty uninspiring and nothing will change that.

The problem for England is that it has always been thus. There is no distinct style that runs through the team the way it does in Spain, Netherlands, Germany or France but instead it is eleven players doing a job on the pitch. They all do it fine but the team suffers and games are always going to be won or lost by an odd goal based on a particular moment of inspiration/desperation.

Ashley Young provided that moment when scoring against Norway on Saturday and Hodgson will once again look to the winger to provide much of the attacking thrust against Belgium at Wembley. He will, most likely, once again be asked to provide support for Andy Carroll although Wayne Rooney will be involved at some point on Saturday.

A Rooney-Carroll partnership could be interesting but it is still not very exciting and it will be through attrition rather than attractive football that England beat Belgium. Given that, it doesn't make much sense to go too wild on best odds of 4/9 from Bet Victor.

Some of the most exciting players on the field at Wembley may actually be wearing red shirts with Lille's Eden Hazard likely to command his own following of scouts from Europe's top clubs. The dynamic winger will provide a good test for Glen Johnson and Ashley Young but he doesn't really have enough support to win the game for the visitors at odds of 15/2 with Ladbrokes.

Belgium have recently played matches with Greece and France, two sides who are playing at Euro 2012 next month, and drawn against both. Both games followed a similar pattern of neither side wanting to risk very much at the back by committing too much in attack and the final scores were 1-1 (v Greece) and 0-0 (v France). This seems almost exactly what will happen at Wembley on Saturday and so backing a draw at odds of 3/1 with Bet Victor could be the best option for win market punters.

Those who don't want to go against England would be advised to bet on under 2.5 goals (odds currently unavailable) as that will cover all low scoring draws or a narrow England win, which seems pretty much every eventuality.
