Last home game before World Cup to be played on a Monday
England’s final ‘home’ game before this summer’s World Cup will be against Mexico, on Monday 24th May, at Wembley.
Fabio Capello chose to play the Mexicans, as he believes that, just as Egypt play a similar style to fellow North Africans Algeria, they will set up in a way that resembles neighbours USA, who are another of England’s Group C opponents in South Africa.
Capello will be boosted by Chelsea’s Champions League exit at the hands of Inter Milan, as it means that Ashley Cole, John Terry, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole would all be able to link up with the squad in time for the match, which is being played just two days after the European showpiece in Madrid.
Mexico have two matches in March, against South Korea and Iceland, on the 18th and 24th March repectively, before they face England.
