El Tri opened their Group B qualifying campaign with a 3-1 at home to Guyana last Friday night. Goals from Salcido, dos Santos and an own goal from Rodrigues gave Mexico the advantage and secured three points with which they top the group.

In the other group match, El Salvador earned a creditable 2-2 draw in San Jose against Costa Rica to leave them trailing their visitors at this early stage by two points.

The Mexican will be extremely wary of their opponents tonight as the last time they visited the Estadio Cuscatlan they fell victim to a 2-1 defeat to El Salvador during qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.

That said, the visitors scored a resounding 5-0 win over their hosts in the Gold Cup last year.

El Salvador are bidding to qualify for the World Cup for the third time in their history, having previously reached the finals in 1970 and 1982.
