German club admit striker is too expensive

German side Eintracht Frankfurt have admitted their interest in unsettled Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin, but manager Michael Skibbe has confessed that the club cannot afford the Ukrainian international striker.

Voronin has spent much of his career in Germany, having spent previous spells at Bayern Leverkusen, Mainz, Koln and Borussia Monchengladbach, and a successful loan spell last season at Hertha Berlin, where he scored 11 goals in 20 appearances.

However, his Anfield opportunities have been limited this season, and he has frequently found himself behind youngster David N’Gog in the Liverpool pecking order, which has led to speculation linking Voronin with a January transfer.

Eintracht Frankfurt were believed to be potential suitors for the striker, however, manager Skibbe said:

"We have a shortage up front following the injuries to Ioannis Amanatidis and Martin Fenin,

"But I really do not think we are in a financial position to be able to afford a player like Andriy Voronin. I really do not think so."
