Chelsea v Manchester United tips - Blues can derail United's title challenge

Chelsea aren't impressing at the moment but Andre Villas-Boas's side can derail Manchester United's title challenge at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Manchester United moved to the top of the Premier League on Tuesday, thanks to former Red Devil Darron Gibson's goal for Everton against Manchester City and Sir Alex Ferguson's side are now a best price of 6/4 with Betfred to win the title.

There are, however, still not convincing and there are serious question marks over a midfield which contains 38-year-old Ryan Giggs, 37-year-old Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick. There is a lack of pace and cutting edge and the absence of Nani means that the side currently lack a cutting edge.

The Red Devils didn't need much offensive threat when beating Stoke City 2-0 on Tuesday, with two penalties enough to see off the Potters, who were equally unimpressive going forward. Wayne Rooney was missing at Old Trafford during the week but the England international will return against Chelsea on Sunday and his presence will be a massive boost for the visitors at Stamford Bridge.

Unfortunately, Rooney has not scaled the heights he reached earlier in the season in the past three months and he looks, at times, as if he is trying too perhaps. The 26-year-old appears to have lost his spark and he is becoming far too predictable and a well marshalled defence can cope with his threat.

Chelsea's defence is not particularly well marshalled but John Terry will return to face Manchester United, despite the fact that he is likely to have been stripped of the England captaincy. Unlike Rooney, Terry is a man who thrives under pressure and it wouldn't be a massive shock to see him put in a commanding performance when the focus is on him.

Another Blues player who is likely to be the centre of attention on Sunday is Fernando Torres. It is now becoming a moot point to talk of the Spaniard's lack of goals but he did score in the reverse of this fixture and enjoys playing against Manchester United. He is 15/2 at Blue Square to open the scoring at Stamford Bridge and could be a good selection for punters who are willing to take a leap of faith.

Chelsea are 13/8 at Bet Victor to beat the reigning champions and that too could be a price worth taking a chance on. Despite the fact that there have been misgivings over their recent displays the Blues are still unbeaten in their last six matches, winning four and drawing two. They may not be playing expansive football but there is enough grit and determination in the side to grind out results.

The same could be said of Manchester United but the defeats at Newcastle and Liverpool last month were incredibly poor. Even the win over Manchester City was something of a struggle, despite the fact the Citizens were down to ten men for most of the game. It is 19/10 at totesport that they win at Stamford Bridge but this could be another disappointing away day for the champions.

Recommendation

Win Market - Chelsea (13/8, Bet Victor)
