Chelsea won the 2011-12 FA Cup after beating Liverpool 2-1 in a thrilling final in which Didier Drogba, Ramires and Andy Carroll all scored goals.

An impressive first 60-minutes, in which both Ramires and Didier Drogba scored for Chelsea, gave the Blues victory in the FA Cup final although a spirited last half hour from Liverpool added drama and tension to an action packed Wembley showpiece.

Chelsea began well and were comfortably on top when Ramires broke free on the right and drilled a low shot past Jose Reina at the Spaniard's near post after just 11 minutes. Roberto Di Matteo's side then bossed the remainder of the first half and came out brightly in the second half.

Didier Drogba doubled the Blues advantage after 52 minutes and it was no more than Chelsea deserved with the Ivory Coast international becoming the first player to score in four FA Cup finals. Liverpool were shellshocked and Kenny Dalglish, as a last throw of the dice, replaced the ineffective Jay Spearing with Andy Carroll. The former Newcastle United striker made an instant impact, pulling a goal back after 64-minutes and from then on Liverpool dominated the game.

Carroll came within inches of making it 2-2 when he powered a header from a Luis Suarez cross towards goal only to see Petr Cech manage to scramble the ball onto the underside of the crossbar. There were huge protests from Liverpool players, led by Suarez, but the linesman was adamant that the ball had not crossed the line. Replays vindicated the officials although it will still undoubtedly reopen the debate over goal line technology.

Chelsea will now prepare themselves for an even bigger cup final, against Bayern Munich on May 19, and it is 15/8 at Paddy Power that they go on to lift the Champions League trophy.
