Chelsea FC v Birmingham City tips - Blues 11/10 to beat Brum to nil

Birmingham City will put up a spirited fight at Stamford Bridge but they are unlikely to have enough in attack to trouble Chelsea's fragile defence.

Roman Abramovich was once again at Chelsea's Cobham training ground this week to speak to manager Andre Villas-Boas and it is claimed that the Portuguese passed the Russian's dissatisfaction with recent performances onto the players after calling them in on their day off. Morale isn't exactly high amongst the Blues at the moment but they have an exciting week ahead as they play in the last 16 of both the FA Cup and the Champions League.

The former should be far more straight-forward than the later with a home tie against Birmingham City far easier to win than an away match against Napoli but it is likely that Villas-Boas will prepare for both with similar rigour as it is performances as well as results that count for Chelsea at the moment.

The manager is likely to make several changes to the team that lost 2-0 to Everton last weekend for the clash with the Championship side on Saturday and that could mean a return to the starting line-up for John Terry, Gary Cahill, Oriel Romeu and Florent Malouda. Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou are expected to be given some more time to recover from the African Nations Cup so that they are fit to face Napoli.

Chelsea should really have nothing to worry about against Birmingham as the Blues weakness this season has been a porous defence and their opponents are struggling for goals at the moment. Chris Hughton's side have only scored once in their last three matches and they will find it difficult to make inroads at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. They are 11/1 at Stan James to spring an upset but if they can't score then they won't win.

It is 1/3 at Coral that Chelsea win this weekend, which looks very short, but 11/10 with the same firm that the home side win to nil. This looks like fantastic value as not only will Villas-Boas be keen for his side to win with a minimum of fuss but he will be keen for them to keep a clean sheet, which will increase confidence ahead of Tuesday's trip to the San Paolo.

Recommendation

Win to Nil - Chelsea (11/10, Coral)
