Champions League 2012-13 odds - Barcelona and Real Madrid both 4/1

Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, beaten semi-finalists this year, have been installed 4/1 joint favourites to depose Chelsea as kings of Europe in the 2012-13 Champions League.

Pep Guardiola will have left the Nou Camp but his assistant Tito Vilanova, who is taking over at the Barcelona helm, is clearly fancied by the bookmakers to restore the club to their previous position at the continent’s football pinnacle.

With the world’s greatest player, Lionel Messi, at his disposal, it is easy to see why the bookmakers rate Vilanova’s prospects of Champions League success so highly.

Ladbrokes consider their chances to be better than all of their competitors, making Barca just 9/4 favourites, whereas several firms such as Bet365 go 4/1 along with Spanish champions Real Madrid.

While Barcelona were edged out of the 2012 Champions League Final by eventual winners Chelsea, Real lost in a penalty shootout to runners-up Bayern Munich as coach Jose Mourinho suffered yet more semi-final heartbreak.

But Mourinho will still fancy his chances of winning Europe’s elite club competition with a third different club, especially with Cristiano Ronaldo spearheading his side’s attack.

Chelsea can be backed at a best price of 16/1 with BetVictor to retain the trophy having ousted London rivals Tottenham from the competition courtesy of their penalty shootout triumph in the Allianz Arena.

However, the blues find themselves only third among English clubs in the betting behind their two Premier League rivals from Manchester.

Given their financial wealth, it is no surprise Manchester City are clear third favourites at 7/1 with Betfred to add the Champions League to their narrow Premier League victory.

Roberto Mancini will be able to strengthen his squad with some more big stars during the summer and the natural next target for this rapidly progressive club is the Champions League.

On the other side of Manchester, Sir Alex Ferguson will hope to capitalise on what could be one of his very last chances to lift the trophy for a third time.

His United side are 12/1 with Bet365 and after a highly disappointing campaign in which they failed to advance from their group, the Red Devils will be determined to reach a fourth final in six years - especially as it is being held at Wembley.

Arsenal, the fourth English team guaranteed to be in the group stage, are 25/1 with Ladbrokes to make it back-to-back wins for London clubs.

Bayern are an attractive-looking 16/1 with Ladbrokes to put their 2012 misery behind them and go one better, with Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund 25/1 having finished bottom of their group last season.

Serie A champions Juventus head the Italian challenge at a best price of 20/1 with William Hill, with AC Milan at 25/1 and Udinese a whopping 150/1 with Paddy Power.
