Celtic v Atletico Madrid tips - Hoops may need a miracle against Los Rojiblancos

Atletico Madrid should be too good for Celtic on Wednesday night and the Spaniards can qualify for the next phase of the Europa League with a win at Parkhead.

Celtic's win over Rennes in their last Europa League match has given the Scottish side hope that they can now qualify for the second round of the competition but it is going to be exceptionally tough for Neil Lennon's side. They may have won 5-0 against St Mirren at the weekend but that victory will hardly have prepared the Hoops for Wednesday's clash with Atletico Madrid at Celtic Park.

It is 11/4 at Victor Chandler that the home side win at Parkhead but those who are backing Celtic at that price to beat one of Europe's biggest sides are taking a massive leap of faith. The last time the sides met, in the Estadio Vicente Calderon in September, the Spanish side won 2-0 and were comfortable from the third minute when Radamel Falcao, who is 11/2 at Victor Chandler to open the scoring on Wednesday, put his team ahead.

Celtic also managed to concede in the third minute against Rennes in November and it would be a surprise if they managed to hold out for long on Wednesday. It is 5/6 at William Hill that Atletico Madrid score in the first half of the game at Parkhead and that looks to be a fantastic bet. Lennon's teams are notoriously poor starters and have frequently found themselves behind in six of their last ten matches in all competitions. That is an embarrassing statistic when it is noted that some of these matches have been against Kilmarnock, Hibs and Motherwell.

Atletico are 11/10 at bet365 to win on Wednesday and it is difficult to imagine the Spanish side failing to win. The likes of Falcao, Diego, Arda Turan and Adrian will cause too many problems for a shaky Celtic defence and the statistics suggest that the 5/2 at Boylesports that the visitors are leading at both half-time and the final whistle is great value.

Recommendation

HT/FT - Atletico Madrid/Atletico Madrid (5/2, Boylesports)
