Liverpool beat Chelsea for the second time in just over a week at Stamford Bridge to seal their place in the semi finals of the Carling Cup.

Chelsea suffered yet another home defeat on Tuesday evening when Liverpool won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the quarter finals of the Carling Cup, piling more pressure on beleaguered Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas.

The Reds dominated from start to finish and should have been ahead after just half an hour of the match. Brazilian defender Alex handled in the penalty area to give Liverpool a penalty but £35 million striker Andy Carroll couldn't convert from 12 yards, with Ross Turnbull saving the kick.

Liverpool may have felt aggrieved to go in level at half-time but they were ahead after an hour, thanks to a Maxi Rodriguez goal and then doubled their advantage just moments later through Martin Kelly. That sealed the game for the visitors and afterwards Villas-Boas admitted that his side were second best.

"I thought Liverpool were superior all the way through. They had a strong desire to kill the game off and we couldn't match it," he said.

The Portuguese is now 8/13 at Stan James to still be in charge at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
