Atletico Madrid v Athletic Bilbao – Europa League Final Odds Preview

Spanish sides Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao will contest the 41st Europa League final on Wednesday night.

Madrid are Pinnacle Sports’ 2.400 favourites for the meeting in Bucharest, having proved themselves a hard team to break down in this year's competition. The Indians have failed to win just twice in their whole campaign, drawing 1-1 with Rennes and dropping points at Udinese.

Los Colchoneros' momentum increased after they topped their group with 13 points, as the side went on to win all eight of their knockout ties. Some quality sides have fallen at Atletico's dynamic feet, including Valencia (4-2 and 1-0), Besiktas (3-1 and 3-0) and Lazio (3-1 and 1-0). The side have scored an impressive 19 goals in the knockout stage so far.

Bilbao (3.120) also earned 13 points in the group stages, but their campaign really peaked against Man Utd in the last 16. The Lions surprised the Red Devils by winning both at home and in Old Trafford. That form continued against Schalke in the quarter-finals, once again winning on their travels to proceed 6-4. Athletic have lost twice and drawn once in the knockout stage.

Thanks to their La Liga pedigree, the two sides have met 34 times and met twice a season for all but one of the last 18 season. The honours have been split for the last five years, with both sides having won home and away in that period. In 06/07, however, Madrid achieved a double over their rivals, smashing Bilbao 4-1 at home.

This season, Bilbao triumphed 3-0 at home, while Atletico managed a 2-1 win back at the Vicentre Calderon. Both times Bilbao finished with more possession, however, although in the Basque side managed just three shots in Madrid.
Back in Bilbao, however, talisman Fernando Llorente bagged a brace, as important in that game as he was in the semi-finals when he scored to put Athletic through in the 88th minute against Sporting.

Atletico, who are in their second Europa League final in three seasons, will have to make do without Tiago, who saw red in the side's 1-0 win over Valencia.
