Arsenal v Manchester City tips – City to end away day blues

Arsenal and Manchester City meet on Tuesday night in a highly-anticipated Carling Cup clash, and City will look to end an era of misery in North London.

It has been 36 years since City recorded an away win over the Gunners, and they would love to bring that unwanted streak to an end in this quarter-final tie. Roberto Mancini is expected to make a raft of changes to his starting XI, but the mammoth spending spree City embarked on means the Italian will not be turning out a “weak” team at the Emirates Stadium.

The likes of Pablo Zabaleta, Kolo Toure, Adam Johnson, Nigel de Jong and Edin Dzeko were all named on the bench for the weekend draw at Liverpool, and all five men could find themselves back in Mancini’s starting XI on Tuesday night. Mario Balotelli could have also been among those names but his red card at Anfield means he is suspended for this one.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, as he traditionally does, will also turn to his fringe players with the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Yossi Benayoun and Park Chu-Young getting rare starts. And when you compare those names to that of City’s “replacements” the gulf is there for all to see – and City have played major role in the Gunners’ weakening by tempting the likes of Gael Clichy, Kolo Toure and Samir Nasri to the North West.

City are 11/8 to end a 28-game wait to win at the home of Arsenal, while a win for the hosts is 19/10 and the draw 12/5 (all SkyBet). City are the 7/10 favourites “to qualify” for the semi-finals, with the Gunners priced at 21/10 (both SportingBet).

City frontman Edin Dzeko is 6/1 (Betfred) in both the first goalscorer and last goalscorer markets, while team-mate Adam Johnson is 14/1 (bet365) in both of them. And if Samir Nasri gets a crack at his former employers, the France international is 11/1 (bet365) in those two goalscoring markets.

For Arsenal, Park Chu-Young is 8/1 (bet365) to mark his rare chance with either the first or last goal, with team-mates Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh also available at those same odds. England starlet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is 12/1 (Paddy Power) in both the first goalscorer and last goalscorer markets.
