Arsene Wenger refuses to quit after loss to Liverpool

Arsene Wenger has claimed that he won't walk away from Arsenal after a miserable 2-0 home defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.

The Gunners were second bets for the entire game against a fairly average Liverpool side on Saturday afternoon, even before the sending off of Emmanuel Frimpong reduced the hosts to 10 men. An own goal from Aaron Ramsey, followed by a late strike from Luis Suarez gave the Reds three points and left the Emirates crowd, once more, questioning Arsenal's manager.

Wenger was, however, philosophical in defeat and when asked if he would consider walking away from the club he has managed for the last 15 years he replied: "There is no chance of that happening, I like to keep a sense of perspective."

That is, perhaps, not what many Arsenal fans wanted to hear in the wake of a second successive Premier League match without a goal. The sale of Cesc Fabregas last week, coupled with Wenger's steadfast refusal to spend in the transfer market, has left the Gunners criminally short of experienced players and the Frenchman's comments after the match illustrated the problem:

"Frimpong was the victim of a lack of experience and his own enthusiasm. He didn't need to make that tackle," said Wenger of the 19-year-old, who was playing only his second Premier League match.

Talk is cheap, however, and Wenger must now go out and invest some of his well-publicised kitty on some experienced midfielders to compliment the youthful enthusiasm of the likes of Frimpong, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey. If he does not, it may not be his decision whether or not he remains Arsenal manager.
