Arsenal given tough Champions League draw, with Chelsea also facing Italian opposition in the form of Napoli

Arsenal and Chelsea’s Champions League odds have been pushed out to 20/1 and 12/1 respectively by online bookmaker Sky Bet after being handed tough trips to Italy in the last 16.

Arsenal will meet Italian champions AC Milan for the second time in four years, while Chelsea must travel to the intimidating San Paolo to meet Napoli. Sky Bet’s football odds compilers have reacted to the difficult draw by moving Arsenal out from 16/1 to 20/1 to win their first Champions League title; Chelsea, meanwhile, have been pushed from 10/1 to 12/1 given Napoli’s impressive performances in the group stage – particularly against Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Despite both English clubs drifting, they still maintain favouritism to advance to the quarter finals. Arsene Wenger’s men have reached the quarter finals in three of the last four seasons and are 8/11 to do so again, while Chelsea are 4/9. AC Milan (25/1 outright) and Napoli (33/1 outright) are evens and 13/8 respectively to upset the odds.

Holders Barcelona have shortened to 11/8 (from 6/4) after being handed a favourable tie with Bayer Leverkusen – Sky Bet make them a short 1/9 to advance to yet another quarter final. Real Madrid (5/2) and Bayern Munich (5/1) also avoided the trickier ties by drawing CSKA Moscow and Basle, although the Swiss side will be hoping for another big scalp after knocking out Manchester United in the group stage.

Elsewhere, Internazionale (28/1) drew Marseille (125/1), while Benfica (50/1) travel to Zenit (125/1) in the first leg of their last 16 clash. 200/1 outsiders APOEL – the first Cypriot team to reach the knockout stages – will take on perennial overachievers Lyon (50/1) for a spot in the last eight.

Sky Bet’s Dale Tempest told Bettingpro: “It’s a tough draw for both Arsenal and Chelsea – it could have been a lot easier for them. AC Milan won last season’s Serie A, while Napoli showed everyone what they’re capable of in a tough group which included Manchester City.

“Both Arsene Wenger and Andre Villas-Boas know the quarter finals will be expected of them, but it won’t be as academic as some will make out – especially travelling to Italy first. With easy-looking ties for those at the head of the market, winning this year’s competition is looking a huge task for both.”
