Arsenal 8/1 to win Champions League after thrashing FC Porto

Arsenal heading into quarter finals (credit: toksuede)

Gunners tear Portuguese champions apart at the Emirates to book place in quarter final

Nicklas Bendtner struck his first career hat-trick on Tuesday night as Arsenal ran riot against FC Porto in the second leg of their last sixteen Champions League tie. The first leg had seen the Gunners lose 2-1 thanks to some defensive errors, although it was a different story at the Emirates where the home side controlled the match.

Bendtner had attracted criticism for the number of goalscoring chances that he missed against Burnley on Saturday, although the Dane was full of confidence as he put Porto to the sword with two early goals. The hat-trick was completed from the penalty spot, although Andrey Arshavin and Samir Nasri were actually the main architects of a victory which was achieved without influential captain Cesc Fabregas.

The bookmakers have reacted by slashing Arsenal to 8/1 (bet365) to win the Champions League this season and they will have Fabregas and Gallas back in the team for later rounds. Arsene Wenger’s team might yet have a season to remember, having clawed themselves back into contention to win the Premier League.

Arsenal are 8/1 (bet365) to win the Champions League.
