Andy Carroll to leave Liverpool FC for Newcastle United return

Andy Carroll is set to leave Liverpool FC for a return to Newcastle United this summer – even though the Magpies have had an initial loan bid turned down.

The England striker, who left Newcastle for Anfield in a £35million move 18 months ago, looks to have little future at Liverpool under new manager Brendan Rodgers.

Last week, Rodgers admitted he may be prepared to let Carroll go out on loan in the 2012-13 season and since then clubs have been queueing up for the target man’s services.

AC Milan and West Ham are understood to be keen on signing the 6ft 3ins forward, but his former club appears increasingly certain to be his destination despite the failure of their first loan offer.

The bookmakers are convinced Carroll is heading back to Newcastle and BetVictor have cut his odds to be playing for the Tyneside club at the end of the current transfer window to 2/7, while Sky Bet offer 1/2.

It is understood Liverpool flatly turned down Newcastle’s loan bid but have made it known they would be willing to listen to offers for a permanent transfer, with a short-term move now apparently off-limits.

Liverpool will attempt to recoup some of the club record fee they paid to Newcastle in January 2011 should the right offer be tabled.

Whether the Magpies will now be willing to return with a new offer for the Gateshead-born striker - who has failed to live up to his hefty price tag since leaving the North East, remains to be seen after their loan bid fell well short of anything the Reds may consider.

Liverpool have already strengthened in attack with the arrival of Roma striker Fabio Borini last week.
Rodgers' arrival as manager has seemingly ushered Carroll towards the exit door with claims he does not fit in with the Northern Irishman's pass-and-move style of play.
