Fish'O'Mania won by Matt Hall

Matt Hall has become the first angler to win Fish'O'Mania twice.

Hall, 47, from Awsworth, Nottinghamshire, led from the second weigh-in at the Cudmore Fisheries in Staffordshire to win the 2009 PartyPoker.com Fish'O'Mania Champion.

He collects £25,000 and scoops the title for the second time after also winning in 2003.

"The title means a lot more to me than the money," said Hall. "To win it once is awesome but to win it twice is something else and I wanted it so badly.

"It's what I've always wanted since I won it once and no one had won it twice. I've pushed myself to do it and eventually I got there.

"You can keep the FA Cup, this is what I do and to win this is the pinnacle. Your family are the lynchpins with the amount of hours you spend away.

"Fishing is a very lonely sport but this makes all those hours worthwhile."

The whole event was broadcast live on Sky Sports and Hall finished first with a combined total of 34.77kg, 11.73kg ahead of second-placed Rob Wooton.

Hall was competing in his fourth Fish'O'Mania final and admitted he was motivated to perform well this year after coming 15th out of 16th in 2008.

"The best thing in my eyes is Fish'O'Mania and I've been lucky to get through to the final four times. But I wanted to make amends after last year. A lot of people were saying to win 'I didn't see you catch any fish' but they weren't the only ones as I had to sit there not catching anything!"

That helped him move into second but early leader Adam Richards was seeing his hopes fade as he had caught just over 1kg in the last hour. MATT Hall remained in the lead as the 2009 PartyPoker.com Fish'O'Mania XVI final was beginning to look a two-man race. Hall was 1.01kg ahead of Adam Richards and was pleased with the day so far.

"This is a method where some half hours you have three or four kgs but in others you may only have 1kg but it doesn't matter as long as you keep catching," said Hall.

"I said the number 16 peg has the best pedigree in Fish'O'Mania finals. It has form over the years and I'm hoping to do well today."
