Spain became the first team to win three major international tournaments with a 4-0 rout of Italy in the Euro 2012 Final.

The Italians arrived in Kiev buoyed by their stunning semi-final upset of Germany, but it turned out to be a miserable night for Cesare Prandelli’s men as the Spaniards showed once again why they are one of the greatest teams to ever grace the game.

Spain flew out of the blocks to take a 14th minute lead on Sunday night. Andres Iniesta sent Cesc Fabregas clear on the right-hand side of the penalty are and his strong cross was guided home by the head of Manchester City ace David Silva.

Italy’s night worsened when Giorgio Chiellini was forced off with injury just seven minutes later, and they fell further behind four minutes before the interval when Xavi Hernandez played in Jordi Alba, and the young full-back coolly slotted home beyond Gianluigi Buffon.

Italy coach Prandelli sent on Antonio Di Natale and Thiago Motta in a desperate attempt to spark his team into life, but any hopes they had of a remarkable comeback were stopped dead in their tracks when the latter was stretchered off on the hour mark, just four minutes after coming on.

Substitute Fernando Torres then added to Italy’s misery, slotting home the third before turning provider for Chelsea team-mate Juan Mata to add the fourth.

Spain are now 9/2 with bet365 to win the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and 14/1 to make it five major tournaments on the bounce at Euro 2016.

Bet365 spokesman Steve Freeth told Bettingpro.com: “There was a lot of talk about Poland/Ukraine maybe being a tournament too far for this Spanish side and that was certainly reflected in the pre-tournament liabilities.

“However, they've produced the goods yet again and now the bandwagon rolls on to Brazil.”
