Alvaro Negredo has played just one minute of football at Euro 2012 but he has been given a starting place for their most important game of the tournament thus far, against Portugal this evening.

The Sevilla striker will be flanked by Andres Iniesta and David Silva with Xavi, Xabi Alonso and Sergio Busquets making up a familiar midfield trio. Jordi Alba, Sergio Ramos, Gerard Piqué and Alvaro Arbeloa form the back four meaning that Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo will be up against two of his club mates.

Ronaldo will be aided in attempting to penetrate the Spanish defence by Nani and Hugo Almeida while Miguel Veloso, Raul Meireles and Joao Moutinho will be the latest midfield partnership to try and crack the 'tiki-taka' tactics began by Barcelona that have become so effective for Spain at international level.

Theses tactics have previously undone Real Madrid defenders Pepe and Fabio Coentrao but both have the chance to make amends this evening with Bruno Alves and Alvaro Pereira making up the Portuguese defence.

Confirmed Starting Teams

Spain: Casillas, Arbeoa, Ramos, Piqué, Alba, Busquets, Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta, Silva, Negredo

Portugal: Rui Patricio, Pereira, Alves, Pepe, Coentrao, Veloso, Moutinho, Meireles, Nani, Ronaldo, Almeida
