Spain starting 11 for Euro 2012 Final against Italy

Vicente del Bosque of Spain talks to the media (credit: Handout/UEFA via Getty Images)
Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque must decide whether or not to field a recognised striker for tonight’s Euro 2012 Final against Italy.

William Hill offer enhanced odds of 7/1 on Andres Iniesta to score and Spain to win in 90 minutes

Del Bosque called up Alvaro Negredo to his starting XI for the semi-final win over Portugal, but the striker did not get on the mark and that could make the Spain coach return to the tactic of fielding six midfield players.

If that happens, Cesc Fabregas is likely to get recalled to the starting XI. History suggests this could well be Del Bosque’s approach because he used this controversial formation in the group game between the two teams earlier in the competition. Fabregas got Spain’s goal in a 1-1 draw.

Aside from this selection poser, the other 10 players pick themselves as Euro 2008 and 2010 World Cup winners Spain look to become the first team to win three consecutive major tournaments.

Iker Casillas is set to start in goal once more, with Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos, Jordi Alba and Alvaro Arbeloa forming the defence in front of him. Sergio Busquets, Xavi Hernandez and Xabi Alonso should make a three-man midfield, with David Silva, Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas further forward.

Possible Spain starting XI: Iker Casillas, Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos, Alvaro Arbeloa, Jordi Alba, Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, Xabi Alonso, Sergio Busquets, David Silva, Cesc Fabregas.

Possible Italy starting XI: Gianluigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini, Federico Balzaretti, Andrea Barzagli, Ignazio Abate, Claudio Marchisio, Daniele De Rossi, Riccardo Montolivo, Andrea Pirlo, Mario Balotelli, Antonio Cassano.
