Greece v Czech Republic betting tips - 23/10 a gift about the Greeks

Greece can knock the Czech Republic out of Euro 2012 by edging to a narrow victory in their second Group A match in Wroclaw.

Match odds
Greece – 23/10 (BetVictor)
Draw – 12/5 (Stan James)
Czech Republic – 6/4 (Stan James)

Greece and the Czech Republic are very much the outsiders to qualify from Group A after the opening round of games, but victory for the nation that won the 2004 European Championship would put them right in the mix for a quarter-final spot.

Dimitrios Salpingidis’ goal earned Greece a 1-1 draw against co-hosts Poland in an opening match of the tournament that had everything – goals, two red cards and a missed penalty.

Indeed, the Greeks could count themselves unfortunate not to have won the game having had Socratis Papastathopoulos sent off for two innocuous fouls in the first half and they were much the better side in the second period.

Admittedly it was their own fault that they missed a potentially decisive penalty when Giorgios Karagounis’ spot-kick was saved by substitute goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton, but there was enough on show to suggest Greece will be no pushovers for their other two group opponents.

Salpingidis made a major difference when he was sent on at the interval and the diminutive PAOK Salonika attacker should start this time.

A blow for Greece is that defender Avraam Papadopoulos will miss the rest of Euro 2012 after damaging knee ligaments against Poland, the 27-year-old suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament and sprained lateral collateral ligament of the left knee.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos is, however, a highly talented replacement at the age of 20 and if the Czechs’ opening game is any indication, he and his fellow defenders should not be unduly troubled.

Even though Michal Bilek’s side scored through lively Vaclav Pilar against Russia, they were pretty toothless in their 4-1 defeat and looked the worst team in the group.

Pilar was the only threat because former Liverpool striker Milan Baros offered little and nor did David Lafata when he replaced him towards the end.

With eight thirtysomethings in their squad it looks as though time has caught up with the Czechs for the time being and that an overhaul of the current squad is due before the next World Cup qualifying campaign.

There probably will not be many goals in this one, but Greece should have enough in their locker attacking-wise to make the vital breakthrough.

Recommendation: Greece (23/10 BetVictor); Greece to win 1-0 (15/2 Coral)
