Bert van Marwijk has refused to discuss his future as national team coach after Holland crashed out of Euro 2012 on Sunday night.

The Oranje, World Cup finalists two years ago, were one of the pre-tournament favourites to go all the way in Poland and Ukraine, but instead they find themselves making an early trip home after three straight defeats.

Holland opened their campaign with a shock defeat to Denmark, and they were then left on the brink by a loss to group winners Germany. That left them needing to beat Portugal by two goals in their final game, while hoping the Germans beat the Danes, but they could not manage that after another defeat dumped them out.

Their exit from the competition has quickly lead to speculation about the future of coach van Marwijk, whose team selection and tactics have been heavily criticised, but that is not something he wants to talk about.

Following the 2-1 defeat to Portugal, the 60-year-old said: “We had to win with a two-goal difference so we had to take a risk and go forward, it started well but then it didn't (go to plan).

“We are disappointed we did not play well. I am disappointed, I am responsible.

“We started every match well and the scenario was right when we opened the scoring, but then you have to keep that advantage to force your opponent to take more risks.

“But again we proved not able to do that and then we gave the goals away to easy. I am responsible and therefore failed this tournament but at this moment I am not thinking about my future.”

Van Marwijk reportedly has another four years remaining on his contract with the Dutch FA.
