X Factor 2009 - How much longer can the twins continue?

It's four weeks on from our first X Factor feature and we're still asking the same question - how much longer can John and Edward last in this year's contest.

The terrible twins have split the judges, the voters and the betting public after a month of mayhem on the Live Shows.

Their latest attempt at Queen's We Will Rock You once again received mixed reviews, with Dannii opening up by declaring: "It is Halloween and that was quite scary!"

She added: "I think you almost needed a Sat-Nav to find your way back to the lyrics at one stage.

"I do look forward to seeing you on stage every week, but I'm not sure I would look forward to hearing you on the radio - you've really got to listen to the song."

However, Cheryl Cole was far more upbeat, stating: "The production was absolutely fantastic, everything was going on, you definitely dressed for the occasion on Halloween and yes, I felt like I was rocking to that song."

Simon Cowell has been their harshest critic though, and he added: "It was Night of the Living Dead, singing Queen out of tune and possibly destroying Queen's career for ever.

"I'll credit you with tenacity, you've stayed in the competition, you're thick skinned, however you cannot, cannot defend that singing."

But mentor Louis Walsh was as defiant as usual, concluding: "It's all about the show, these are two young kids living their dream, having fun and the audience loved them.

"They're energetic, they're entertaining and they're exciting - this is what the music business is all about. I meet kids everywhere and all they want to see is John and Edward."

The Grimes brothers will reportedly be performing the theme song from Ghostbusters this weekend and bookmakers are wondering are you going to call to keep them in the show?

The vibes are that viewers certainly will vote to see more of the Dublin teenagers as they have drifted out to 4/1 with bet365 to be the next act eliminated and 10/3 here to be in the bottom two following Live Show 5.

Bet365 are offering 9/2 they go next week, 5/1 Live Show 7 is their last, 6/1 they are sent packing in week 8 and the same price for week 9.

John and Edward are 11/2 to finish third in the final, 15/2 to be runners-up and a top-priced 7/1 with Stan James to actually claim victory.

With front page headlines and endless press coverage, John and Edward's continued involvement in the X Factor contest is good news for the bookies despite huge liabilities on them winning.

As the pair capture the public interest, betting turnover has increased 100 per cent on previous years and despite them being the biggest gamble in reality TV history, Coral are hoping they last for a few more weeks.

The twins have been backed from 100/1 and spokesman Gary Burton said: "We obviously don't want them to win, but their involvement is fantastic for turnover and the perfect scenario for us is that they fall at the final hurdle."
