UK odds tightened for Eurovision Song Contest Visit Paddy Power Save For Later Posted by Bettingpro Staff 12 May 2009 Tweet Related Articles See all Eurovision Song Contest newsEurovision Bets expected to exceed £5mEurovision Song Contest last place betting tips Share it Pin It Norway might be the red hot favourite at 11/8 to win this year's Eurovision song contest but it's the UK who are proving very popular with punters this year, forcing bookies Paddy Power to tighten the odds on a UK victory to 14/1 from 20/1. The Andrew Lloyd Webber ballad sung by stunning songstress Jade is not only a big hit with patriotic punters but is going down a storm with Irish fans too. Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power explains: "The Irish are turning their attention to the UK because it looks like our entry won't even make it out of the starting blocks! With a strong song and a sexy singer, the UK have a fantastic chance this year and they could very well defy the odds and the Balkan countries and win the title for the first time since 1997." It remains to be seen just how much support the UK will receive from their neighbours but Paddy Power are quoting 9/4 that Ireland will give the UK a maximum twelve points. In recent years the UK have failed to rank high in the voting, and continuous block voting from the Balkan countries saw Terry Wogan throw in the towel as the BBC's long standing commentator. With funny-man Graham Norton now taking over in the hot seat there could be a few surprises in store! Paddy Power are betting on what cliché/phrase Norton will say first. 'Fabulous' is the 6/1 favourite followed with 'Is she naked?' at 66/1 and 'It's not Terry's, it's mine!' at 100/1! The first Eurovision semi final takes place tonight, followed by a second semi-final on Thursday. The actual Eurovision Final will take place this Saturday at 8pm.
