Following today’s Oscar nominations, Irish bookmaker Paddy Power have announced that they are paying out on Heath Ledger to win the award for Best Supporting Actor, thirty-one days before the awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on the 22nd February.
The Australian actor, who died on this very day last year, has been widely tipped to win an Oscar for his outstanding performance in last year’s hugely successful blockbuster ‘The Dark Night’ and with a nomination for Heath confirmed today, bookies Paddy Power wasted no time in rewarding punters who bet on Ledger to win an Oscar from beyond the grave.
At 1/10 in the betting, it’s hard to see anybody stealing Oscar glory from Heath this year.
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “Once Heath made the nominations list it was hard to see anybody beating him. His portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight was fantastic and it would be a real tragedy if he were not to win an Oscar. He’s been odds-on for many months already and as far as we’re concerned he’s already won.”
In other categories, Golden Globe winner Kate Winslet is 11/10 to win the Oscar for Best Actress having been nominated for her role in Stephen Daldry’s The Reader, while Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire is the bookies choice at 2/5 to win Best Film.
Meanwhile, the nominations for this year’s Golden Raspberry Awards, also known as The Razzies, have been revealed. Unlike the Oscars, which reward the best of the best in Hollywood, The Razzies celebrates the worst of the worst.
Jessica Alba, Paris Hilton, Pierce Brosnan and Big Brother’s Verne Troyer are all tipped to be honoured at this year’s Razzie Awards, which takes place one day before The Oscars.
