The Manchester United legend was backed at massive three-figure prices on Betfair to win the annual award, with one punter getting 50p at the maximum odds of 1000.0 and other similar bets being struck at 300.0 and above on the exchange. And the Betfair punter who had £25 on Giggs at 250.0 didn't get too shoddy a bet, either. Giggs was an 1.73 chance on Betfair when the voting closed on the Beeb. Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin commented: "Giggs was backed from 1000.0 to 1.73 to win this award - about the same odds he must have been to score when he started that FA Cup goal run against Arsenal in 1999."
