The two most popular markets over the past 48 hours concern guests to be spotted crying during the ceremony and the perennial favourite; the colour of the Queens’ hat.
Yellow has been the favourite in the Queen’s hat market for some time now but Sky Bet report today a sudden flurry of bets on turquoise and light blue, which have been cut from to 7/1 (from 14/1) and 5/2 (from 13/2) respectively. Kate, meanwhile is favoured to be wearing an ivory gown at 8/15.
Kate’s mum Carole Middleton has been the subject of a substantial gamble in the crying market: she has been cut to 5/4 from 6/4 to shed a tear in Westminster Abbey and may well go off as an odds-on shot to blub by tomorrow morning. Even Prince Charles has been backed to cry at 20/1 today!
Sky Bet’s Helen Jacob told Bettingpro: “The huge popularity of our royal wedding bets has far exceeded my expectations. Who would have thought there were so many elements to bet on? People are having a handful of small flutters on various markets and I’ve been inundated with tweets this week requesting ever more wacky wagers!
“And the betting doesn’t stop when Kate arrives at Westminster- we have a plethora of ‘in-ceremony’ specials too.”
One of the bets requested on Twitter is Kate to trip up as she walks down the aisle, which Sky Bet make a 20/1 shot. Other outlandish bets include 33/1 for Prince Philip to be caught snoozing during the ceremony, 250/1 for Kate to jilt William, 100/1 for a streaker and 200/1 for Tony Blair to gate crash proceedings!
Sky Bet today suspended betting on Kate not to say ‘obey’ in her vows after it had been backed into 1/20 following comments from the Archbishop of Canterbury.
If the money is correct, Kate will arrive tomorrow at Westminster between 11:00 and 11:03 (5/4), it won’t be raining (1/3) and she will leave the abbey in the open 1902 State Landau carriage (1/4).
