Geoffrey Rush and Tom Hooper backed to be honoured alongside hotpot Colin Firth

Colin Firth is a red-hot favourite to pick up the Best Actor award at the 2011 Oscars and punters are also Rush-ing to back one of his co-stars to prevail in the Best Supporting Actor category.

Christian Bale heads the betting for the latter market after producing a brilliant berformance in The Fighter, but value seekers have been snapping up decent odds for Geoffrey Rush to come through and pip him at the post.

The Australian has already won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of David Helfgott in the 1996 classic Shine and the 59-year-old is now being backed for another gong for playing speech therapist Lionel Logue.

Betfred spokesman Jon Wilde said: "One punter with a good record in these kind of markets started placing sizeable wagers on Rush at 5/1 and has still been topping up those bets after we cut him to 9/2.

"With Tom Hooper also proving popular for the Best Director award against odds-on chance David Fincher of The Social Network fame, if money talks it is starting to look like The King's Speech could walk way with a clean sweep of the major honours."

Betfred also report sustained strong support for Rick Baker and Dave Elsey to scoop the Best Makeup title for their work on The Wolfman, with one punter placing £1100 on this duo at 4/11 before the price was trimmed to 1/3.
