Ann Doyle is leaving RTE Nine News and looks set to be replaced by Una O'Hagan
RTE’s Una O’Hagan is being hotly tipped at odds of 13/8 with Paddy Power to replace Ann Doyle on the 9 o’ clock news when the 59-year-old anchor calls it a day.
Ice-queen Ann, who has been queen of the RTE newsroom for more than 30 years, is understood to have already made inquiries into a retirement package with the state broadcaster and is keen to enjoy life away from the newsdesk.
Other names in the running to fill the void that will be left by the veteran newscaster are Aengus MacGrianna at 2/1, Eileen Whelan at 5/1 and Eileen Dunne at 7/1. RTE’s Six One co-anchor Sharon Ni Bheolain is 10/1 on Paddy Power’s list to move up to the later slot.
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power told Bettingpro:
“We’ll miss Ann’s stone cold demeanour on the 9 o’clock news and while nobody will ever match her style of presenting we’re sure viewers will warm to whoever takes over!”
As well as speculating on who will step into Ann’s seat, Paddy Power are also betting on what Ann will turn her hand to next. The odds on her getting engaged to her long-term partner Dan McGrattan are just 2/1 while it’s 4/1 the racing enthusiast spends some of her retirement money on a racehorse and 16/1 that she’ll become a practising barrister.
