Miss World 2011 is a popular betting contest, with Miss Bolivia currently the one to beat, although Miss England can be backed at 20/1

Irish beauty Holly Carpenter is leading the pack of British and Irish contestants in this year’s Miss World.

Bookmaker Paddy Power has the 20 year-old from Dublin at 16/1 to win the competition in London this weekend. Home advantage does not seem to be helping Miss England as 22 year-old journalism student Alize Lily Mounter is only rated as a 20/1 shot. Maybe it has something to do with her actually being Welsh, not English (she’s from Pontypridd and is a Welsh-speaker)!

The proper Welsh entrant, Sara Manchipp, is down at 50/1 for the crown, as are Miss Scotland Jennifer Reoch and Miss Northern Ireland Finola Guinnane. Miss Bolivia is current favourite at 5/1.

Paddy Power told Bettingpro: “I have been watching the Miss World contest with a deep interest for a number of years now, and every year it just gets tougher. It’s great to see our Holly up there with a shout, but I’m sure all the girls will do their nations proud and I have my hankies ready for when the winner is revealed.”
